From the Nye County, Nevada Photograph Collection (PH-00221) -- Series V. Smoky Valley, Nevada and Round Mountain, Nevada -- Subseries V.A. Carver, Carver-Duhme, and Carver-Book Families (Smoky Valley). One of the first pictures taken at Carver’s Station, Smoky Valley, Nevada, when it was originally known as Carver’s Rainbow Ranch Bar and Café. Driver of the Las Vegas-Tonopah-Reno Stage Line, which traveled through Tonopah to Winnemucca every other day, is pictured with Dick and Gary Carver.

Description

From the Nye County, Nevada Photograph Collection (PH-00221) -- Series V. Smoky Valley, Nevada and Round Mountain, Nevada -- Subseries V.A. Carver, Carver-Duhme, and Carver-Book Families (Smoky Valley). When Gerald Miller Carver purchased his Smoky Valley, Nevada ranch from Ed Turner, Carver agreed to allow Turner to live on the property. Turner resided in the cabin pictured on the left. Carver purchased the ranch for $5,200 which included 80 head of cattle. This photograph was taken prior to Carver’s purchase of the ranch.

Carver, Carver-Duhme, and Carver-Book Families (Smoky Valley). Dick Carver and a boy remembered only as “Bobby”, riding the same burros as pictured in pho005671 on the Carver ranch, Smoky Valley, Nevada, about 1946 or 1947. This photo is taken at the approximate site where Carver’s Station is Presently (1990) located. Broad Canyon in the Toiyabe Mountains is visible upper left in the photo.
