Abstract

Ann Brewington Papers (1984-1987) consist of letters and clippings related to Nevada history. Correspondence is primarily from Anne Brewington's sister, Ida Brewington, to Brewington regarding Ida Pittman's death. This collection also contains a letter from Florence Cahlan and copies of letters sent to Cahlan about an article she had written on Ida Brewington Pittman. Also included is another article about Pittman that appeared in the December 2, 1984 Nevadan that has a few hand written notes in the margins, as do a few of the letters.

The Young Audiences New York, Nevada Humanities Collection dates from 1960 to 1982 and chronicles the chapter’s efforts to bring music education to students from kindergarden through high school of the Clark County School District in Nevada. The collection contains accounting records, performance reviews, grant applications, correspondence, and employee information. The collection also contains performance announcements, newspaper clippings, and students’ thank-you letters.

The Elbert Edwards Papers (1869-1988) consist of manuscripts, newspaper clippings, and audio recordings documenting the history of Southern Nevada. The materials were compiled by Las Vegas, Nevada educator Elbert Edwards and contain a heavy emphasis on Mormon history. Other items of interest include biographies of Southern Nevada officials, Boulder City Cemetery genealogical records, and reports from the Clark County School District.

The KLVX Steamboats on the Colorado Records consist of documents related to the production of Las Vegas' channel 10's (KLVX) Steamboats on the Colorado documentary between 1974 and 1976. The collection is comprised of correspondence, promotional materials, scripts, a treatment, a grant application, maps of the Colorado River from 1852 and other materials used as research for the documentary.

Abstract

The Marshall L. Wright Collection on the Riviera Hotel (1944-1956) consists of a disassembled scrapbook, a small amount of newspaper clippings, and correspondence from Marshall L. Wright. He served as the general manager of the Riviera Hotel in Las Vegas, Nevada beginning in 1954 and remained in the role through the hotel’s opening on April 20, 1955. By late 1955, he moved to a similar role at the Flamingo Las Vegas. Materials document the opening of the Riviera including black-and-white photographs of the construction of the hotel, press kits, brochures, and other promotional material. The collection includes a small amount of promotional material from the Flamingo.

Sign details: Sold in 2009 for $1 millon. It a .66 acre lot with an original construction year of 1958, with additions in 2000 and 2007.
Sign condition: 2 - O Panel knocked out, broken lexan covering the Pool wording of neon, heavy discoloration of the letter T and the E is almost completely worn off. Sun damage in the paint, otherwise looks functional.
Sign form: Back to Back Pole Sign
Sign-specific description: Pole sign that is double sided, Motel reading on either side with flag like components hanging off the support pole, each letter with its own component. A giant red check-mark shaped arrow in the center of the sign grabs the visitor's attention with its bright vibrant red color and its neon tubing filling it its shape, used as a directional tool into the parking lot. Underneath the arrow is a tiny reader board with cutout letters listing the amenities available in each of the rooms. Underneath the reader board is a little component that spells Pool with neon outlining the letters. The color scheme ranges from pale baby blue for the framework of the letters and reader board, and the bright red of the arrow.

Sign details: 0.50 acre lot, construction date was 1980. Prior to the property becoming Siegel Suites in Jan. 2013, it was the Sunflower Apartments.
Sign condition: 5 looks in good condition, no broken pieces, looks clean, and no graffiti.

Sign-specific description: Double sided sign with what looks like a plaster covered pole to hold it up, small pedestal at the bottom. Plexi-glass or plastic on the cabinet portion with the words "SIEGEL SUITES Fremont 1" on the top portion then " FLEXIBLE STAY LIVING" under that. Royal blue background and edges, yellow outlining around the sign with a double crescent moon symbol on the top, white font for wording but yellow and blue outlining the words. The support pole of the sign is a cream yellow color with a stone gray colored base, the address painted on the support pole in a royal blue.
