Paz, Jacob, Dr.

Dr. Jacob Paz was born November 14, 1938 and grew up in an agricultural environment in Israel where he attended Kadoorie High School. After his graduation, Paz joined the Israeli army. He attended technical school for two years and started working for the Israel Atomic Energy commission in Dimona, Israel, making atomic bombs. Paz was accepted into University of California Davis, and moved to the United States to study veterinary medicine.

Eisen, Steven W., 1966-

Steven Eisen (1966 - ) is the oldest son of Barry and Beverly Eisen, who were part of the migration of Jews from St. Louis to Las Vegas in the 1960s. He is married to Stacy Fisher and the older brother to Andrew and Robert Eisen. They are members of an early group of born-and-raised Las Vegans. Growing up Jewish, he became a bar mitzvah, belonged to B’nai B’rith Youth Organization.

Sparer, Jon

Jon Sparer is an architect in Las Vegas, Nevada who has worked on numerous hotels and casinos. He moved to Las Vegas in July 1981 and worked for the architecture firm Rissman and Rissman before joining Marnell Corrao. After briefly retiring in 1999, Sparer opened his own architecture firm and was contacted by Congregation Ner Tamid (of which he was a casual member) to design their new temple in Green Valley. Jon was married to another successful architect, John Klai. Both were very instrumental in the opening of The Center.

Bruner, Elmo C., 1906-1973

Elmo C. Bruner came to Las Vegas, Nevada in 1947 and established himself as an architect and appraiser. Born in Texas, he grew up in Oklahoma and attended Oklahoma State University. He graduated in 1931 with a BA and BS in architecture and engineering. He married Lucile Spire that same year. The couple went on to have four children: Elmo, Allen, Jerry, and Janice. After graduation, he worked for the Oklahoma State Highway Department and for several oil companies. From 1945 to 1947, he worked as an architectural engineer on the Los Alamos Project.

Rojas, Joseph A., 1933-2009

Dr. Joseph Rojas, born December 09, 1933 in Alexandria, Louisiana, was the son of Joseph Edward and Carroll Rojas. He graduated high school at age 16 and entered Loyola University of the South. Two years later, he was accepted at Louisiana State University School of Medicine, graduating with a medical degree in 1957. He interned at Charity Hospital and then completed his Obstetrics- Gynecology (OB-GYN) residency at Tulane University.

Urban, Ruth Pearson, 1948-

Ruth Pearson Urban was born in 1948 in Los Angeles, California. At the age of ten, she moved to Las Vegas with her mother and older sister. Urban spent most of her childhood in the Huntridge area and was always heavily involved with Temple Beth Sholom. After graduating from Las Vegas High School, Urban attended the University of Nevada, Las Vegas where she received a bachelor’s degree in social work, and later, a master’s degree in counseling.

Grant, Arthur George, 1924-2012

Arthur George Grant, a resident of Las Vegas, Nevada since 1951, was involved in gaming businesses and real estate. Grant was part owner of the Nevada Club, established Honest John’s Casino, and was owner of Western Avenue Business Properties.
