The Norma Jean Almodovar Papers (1918-2022) consist of research files, correspondence, business records, legal documents, publications, artwork, and ephemera documenting the activities of sex worker rights activist Norma Jean Almodovar. The majority of the materials detail Almodovar’s involvement in sex work and human rights advocacy from 1980 to 2022, and include the records of the nonprofit organization she founded, International Sex Worker Foundation for Art, Culture, and Education (ISWFACE). The business records of the Los Angeles chapter of Call Off Your Old Tired Ethics (COYOTE LA) are also included.

The Donn Arden Photographs (approximately 1920-1989) contain photographs, negatives, and photographic slides of dancer and choreographer Donn Arden. The photographs primarily document Arden's life as a dancer and choreographer in Las Vegas, Nevada and in Paris, France, including performances at the Stardust Hotel, Desert Inn, and MGM Grand in Las Vegas and the Lido in Paris. The photographs also depict rehearsals, dancers, showgirls, Arden's friends and family, and performance locations.

Abstract

The Fallman Family Papers (approximately 1950-2005) consist of correspondence, newspaper clippings, photographic prints and slides, scrapbooks, and pamphlets from James and Ima Fallman and their daughter, Janice. The correspondence primarily relates to James and Ima Fallman and chronicles Ima's involvement with the Francisco Garces chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR), James's work as a bartender in Las Vegas, Nevada, and awards he received during World War II. The newspaper clippings mention either James Fallman or his daughter, Janice, and her involvement with the Las Vegas High School Rhythmettes dance team. The majority of materials from Janice describe her school days at Las Vegas High School and events participated in as a child and young adult.

Abstract

The Barbara G. Brents Professional Papers (1982-2025) contain materials representing sociologist Barbara "Barb" Brents's academic career as a faculty member in the Department of Sociology at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas (UNLV). In particular, the materials document Brents's research on the political economy of sex workers in Nevada and the culminating scholarly output including papers and her co-authored monograph, The State of Sex: Tourism, Sex and Sin in the New American Heartland. Trade publications, marketing materials, and memorabilia from the AVN Expo and the Adult Entertainment Expo are also in this collection. Materials also include Brents's involvement as a faculty member at UNLV including her work organizing the Womyn's Festival in the early 1990s, and her community work with the ACLU of Nevada and Citizen Alert.

Oral history interview with Ashley Nitz conducted by Claytee D. White on February 6, 2018 for the Remembering 1 October Oral History Project. In this interview, Ashley Nitz discusses her experiences attending the 2017 Route 91 Harvest music festival in Las Vegas, Nevada with a friend. She talks about making the weekend of the event a "staycation", where she stayed with her friend at the Trump Hotel. Nitz goes into detail on the Route 91 Harvest festival venue and the events of that Sunday night when the shooting began. She speaks of the lockdown in the Tropicana Hotel and the support given there to all of the survivors, such as water and medical aid, as well as her journey home once the lockdown was lifted. The interview ends with a discussion on life after the shooting.
