Abstract

The Q. B. Bush Papers are comprised of Q. B. Bush's personal papers dating from 1957 to 2018 and document Bush's work in Westside Las Vegas, Nevada casinos including the Moulin Rouge, Town Tavern, and the El Morocco. The collection also documents Bush's involvement with the Dealers Security Association and the association's effort to provide better working conditions for African American casino employees. Included are both original photographs and copies of photographs that document the African American casinos where Bush worked, as well as the Bush family at various events.

Description

Oral history interview with Lily Teo conducted by Stefani Evans on February 7, 2022 for Reflections: The Las Vegas Asian American and Pacific Islander Oral History Project. Lily Teo discusses her upbringing in Singapore, her education, her religious beliefs, and converting from Buddhism to Catholicism. She talks about her husband, her early married years, and what life was like as a young mother of three children. Teo shares how she started a catering business to feed construction workers and was responsible for shopping for ingredients, preparing all meals and tea, and cooking the food on site in her temporary kitchen. She talks about her children, the faiths they practice and languages they speak including English, Malay, and Mandarin, and the customs and traditions they practice, such as celebrating Lunar New Year and other holidays. Lily's daughter, Stella, sits in on the interview and expands on her mother's recollections.

Abstract

The Patrick Egger Las Vegas Real Estate Records (1958-2012) represent materials from Egger, a former city planner for North Las Vegas and the Clark County Department of Comprehensive Planning, and a real estate appraiser. Materials include new housing development brochures, proposed and preliminary plans for housing, apartment, and mobile home developments, and building companies market studies throughout the Las Vegas Valley. The collection includes physical and digital aerial and satellite imagery of Clark County produced by Rupp Aerial Photography, Inc. and Landiscor Real Estate Mapping. Also included are bulletins, maps, reports of property and home price increases, surveys of commercial space availability, analyses of general growth patterns in the Southern Nevada region. Other digital materials in this collection includes electronic resource guides on real estate and title insurance for Stewart Title Las Vegas and database information on residential real estate sales, projects, and plans created by the Meyers Group.

Avelar, Lupe, 1946-

Lupe Avelar was born and raised in the State of Durango, Mexico, and since she was little learned from her parents the love for farming and hard work. Lupe relates her childhood with nostalgia and happiness, highlighting how her childhood moments were some of the most beautiful of her life. She grew up in a poor family that solely made their living from the farming of corn and beans. She witnessed her parents make ends meet in any way possible through hard work while staying together as a family and caring for each other.
