Description

Oral history interview with Angela Castro conducted by Stefani Evans, Cecilia Winchell, Kristel Peralta, Vanessa Concepcion, and Ayrton Yamaguchi on November 05, 2020 for the Reflections: The Las Vegas Asian American and Pacific Islander Oral History Project. Castro begins the interview by talking about her early life, childhood, what Guam was like, and the history of her parents and grandparents. She describes the difference in public and private education in Guam and compares it to the United States. She explains the reason why she moved to Las Vegas, Nevada in 1998 and attended the University of Nevada, Las Vegas for public relations. Castro then talks about the differences between older and newer generations, the political atmosphere in Guam, and the differences between the United States and Guam in politics. She also talks about the discrimination she has experienced throughout her life and diversity in the workplace. Lastly, she describes her culture and traditions during holidays, the struggles with an absence of culture within her family, and her personal religious beliefs.

A scrapbook for "Universal Warning Sign: Yucca Mountain," an international competition to create a warning sign for the proposed nuclear waste facility at Yucca Mountain, Nevada. Included in the scrapbook are exhibition photographs, newspaper clippings, magazine articles, and a letter. Publications featured include "Neon: Artcetera From the Nevada Arts Council," "The Wall Street Journal," "Bulletin of the Atomic Scientists: The Magazine of Global Security News and Analysis," "U.S. News & World Report," "Artweek," "Sette," "Surface," "Wallpaper," "Waste News: The News Source for Businesses that Generate and Manage Waste," and "The Village Voice."

Fried, Joni, 1955-

Joni Fried was born November 09, 1955 in Las Vegas, Nevada. Her parents, Milton and Esther Fried, owned Freed’s Bakery. She grew up in Paradise Palms and became one of the third-generation owners of her parents’ bakery.

Joni is married to Fred Jones. They have two children: Matthew Scott Eichenfield and Sarah Charlotte O'Briant-Fried.

Wilson, Clarence, 1876-1941

In kind with many character actors of his generation, Clarence Hummell Wilson spent the first decades of his acting career touring in stage productions. Born Wilson Hummell in 1876, Clarence Wilson launched his film career in 1920 with Duds, eventually accumulating 198 films to his credit. Wilson died in Los Angeles, California in 1941.
