Scope and Contents

This series is comprised of records of the Las Vegas/Southern Nevada chapter of Hadassah from 1964 to 2001. Materials include awards, board meeting minutes, budgets, bylaws, calendars, and certificates. Photographs and scrapbooks from the 1960s and 1970s chronicle the many activities of the organization. The series also includes two large banners.

Arum, Bob

Bob (Robert) Arum is the founder and CEO of Top Rank boxing promotions company in Las Vegas, Nevada. Born in New York City, Arum is a former attorney and a member of the International Boxing Hall of Fame. He promoted his first fight for Muhammad Ali in 1966 and moved Top Rank’s headquarters to Las Vegas in 1986. He has produced countless fights in the city and helped to make it “The Fight Capital of the World.”

Robinson, Lyn, 1978-

Lyn Robinson was born January 16, 1978 in Florida. She moved to Las Vegas, Nevada in 1999 and became a student at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas (UNLV). She was an art major with a concentration on photography. Robinson also had a deep appreciation of the horror of the Holocaust and what the survivors she would take photos of had endured. This began a two year project, during which she took photos of over sixty survivors. Robinson’s images were displayed at the Sperling Kronberg Mack Holocaust Resource Center.

Eisenberg, Bernice

Bernice Eisenberg has been a Las Vegas resident since 1955 and was a part of the formation of Midbar Kodesh Temple. Eisenberg was a teacher and has taught at many Las Vegas schools. She met her husband, Ivan, at the Jewish Community Centers’ social club for young adults and married him in 1956. During the mid 1990s Las Vegas was a growing and Temple Beth Sholom was the only synagogue and Eisenberg worked to help form Midbar Kodesh Temple to serve the growing Henderson community. Bernice has two children.

Boruszak, Allan N.

Taken from SNJHP: "Dr. Allan N. Boruszak is an obstetrician and gynecologist who owned a private practice in Las Vegas, Nevada for 21 years. He grew up in Chicago, Illinois and attended medical school at the University of Illinois. Boruszak was a clinical instructor and chief resident at Tulane University in New Orleans, Louisiana from 1982 to 1983. While in Las Vegas, Boruszak was also an Associate Clinical Professor at the University of Nevada School of Medicine. From 1993 to 1995 he was president of the Jewish Federation of Las Vegas.

Rosen, Millicent, 1931-2017

Millicent Rosen was born January 14, 1931 in New York City. Millicent Rosen's father was the Jewish mobster Benjamin "Bugsy" Siegel. She married Jack Rosen in 1950 when she was 19 years old and they had three children together: Benjamin, Cindy, and Wendy. Rosen moved to Las Vegas to be with one of her daughters and her family in 2000 and cherished her role as a grandmother. An artist at heart, Rosen painted canvases for needlepoint and promoted her own clothing line in 2015. She passed away November 17, 2017.

Gordon, Mike

Mike Gordon (1903 - 1992) was born Meyer Harold Gordon. He is one of the founders of Temple Beth Sholom in Las Vegas and served as Temple president from 1949 to 1951.

In 1932, Mike moved to Las Vegas with his wife, Sallie Gordon. They owned and operated liquor and grocery stores. Mike also worked as a postman and later became Clark County Secretary of the Democratic Central Committee and a member of the Las Vegas Chamber of Commerce board of directors.
