Abstract

The Glenn Davis Photograph Collection (approximately 1914-1960) depicts life in Southern Nevada and the American Southwest. The images were created or collected by Las Vegas photographer Glenn Davis and include images of the construction on the Hoover Dam (formerly known as the Boulder Dam), landscapes, gaming, and residents of the region.

Abstract

The George Stewart Personal Papers (1914-2014) are comprised of military records and personal papers of George Stewart, a fifty-year Las Vegas, Nevada resident. The collection includes information about the Clark County Republican Party, Stewart's service in the United States Army Air Corps, and documents and photographs from Stewart's childhood in the Boy Scouts of America during the 1930s and 1940s. The collection also contains a personal scrapbook containing photographs, fliers, and memorabilia from his early education and military training. Stewart also collected menus and keychains from local Las Vegas, Nevada country clubs and casinos.

Abstract

The Kenneth Yerike Papers are comprised of video tapes, instructional manuals, casino operational instructions, playing cards, dice, and brochures that date from approximately 1970 to 2000 and document Yerike's involvement with establishing the Hyatt Regency and Regency Casino on Jeju Island, South Korea. The papers include information about how the Hyatt Regency Casino was established and how staff were trained, particularly as it relates to operating table games. The instructional manuals detail how to play table games such as craps, roulette, blackjack, and baccarat. The manuals are written in both Korean and English, with the majority of the manuals written in Korean.

Chris Giunchigliani Political Papers

Abstract

The Chris Giunchigliani Political Papers (1986-2019) document Giunchigliani's career as a member of the Nevada Assembly as well as her involvement as a Clark County Commissioner. The majority of the collection is a "newspaper and document archive" which consists of media articles and newspaper clippings collected by Giunchigliani's office that mention Giunchigliani throughout her political career. The collection also includes campaign materials such as mailers and photographs. Interviews Giunchigliani did with local news networks in Las Vegas, Nevada as well as televised campaign advertisements for the Clark County Commission election are represented in the collection. Other materials include legislative research files for bills on gypsum reclamation, development near Red Rock Canyon, education reform, and funding to build an NFL stadium in Las Vegas. The collection also includes a certificate of commendation from Senator Harry Reid and thank you cards from schoolchildren.

Hooper, Robert Scott

Robert Scott Hooper, was an artist and photographer based in Las Vegas, Nevada who photographed diverse subjects over many decades. His work has been seen on the pages of newspapers and magazines worldwide, from Life to the cover of Playboy; featured on billboards, posters, postcards, phone cards and video game machines; and exhibited in galleries and private collections. He won numerous awards for his creations in graphic arts, commercial television production, advertising, print work, and even photographing a centerfold for Playboy.

Description

Oral history interview with Andrew Walsh conducted by Barbara Tabach and Claytee D. White on February 13, 2019 for the Remembering 1 October Oral History Project. In this interview, Walsh recalls his early life in New York City, New York, and working for the New York Police Department. He then recalls moving and joining the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department in 1998. He discusses his current position as Deputy Chief/Division Commander of Tourist Safety, his role in the aftermath of the October 1, 2017 mass shooting at the Route 91 Harvest Festival, and community healing.
