JUN 1 5 1942 Replying to your letter June 1st, regarding statement of per capita water consumption in Las Vegas, sent you with my letter May 25th. I agree that it is not reasonable to assume the per capita in April decreased from 388 to 185 gallons dally; however, the per capita did decrease, and this is borne out by the May performance, which reflects a decrease of 1,000,000 gallons per day and this des­pite the large increase in population which is so apparent here. It is my opinion this decrease is due to the comparatively cool weather we have experienced so far. In accordance with your request, I attach statement of reven­ues and users for the first five months of 1940, 1941 and 1942, to­gether with a re-cap. The pronounced increase in May revenues is due to two factors; first, the re-adjustment of rates due to Aud­itor's check and, second, an accumulation of $636.65 covering water sold contractor for construction of Army housing project. The increase in population is not centered around Midway, and the Basic Plant, but is in Las Vegas. For ready refer­ence I enclose a ^newspaper clipping from the local paper, June 5th, indicating the distribution of population as reflected by sugar rationing cards. This, of course, does not include the "floating" or transient population of about 1,000 persons per day, in Las Vegas, who were issued no sugar rationing cards here. To complete your file, I attach also comparative statement for May.
