October 22, 1943 W 23-2-4 liar. Bernard C. Hartung Executive Secretary for Nevada War Production Board 2?5 South Virginia Street Reno, Nevada Dear Mr. Hartung? this will acknowledge receipt of your letter October Sth, regarding the number of tone of scrap iron and steel required from Nevada for the last six months of this year. In looking over the Railroad industrial sit® this afternoon, % noticed a large amount of junked automobiles and metal scrap of all kind on the sit# which we leased the Clark County Salvage Committee. 1 am sure a great deal of this scrap could be made usable and at badly as if is needed in the. war effort, 1 think every effort should be made to get the scrap moving through the channels to where it will do some good for our country. % have discussed this with local Chairman DeArmond and understand he has under way arrangements to secure a bailer so the ecrap can be broken up and compressed into blocks that will be easier handled in shipment. 1 am very much interested in this scrap drive and will be glad to assist in any way we can to get the present available scrap loaded and moving on its way. If there is anything f oan do to help this, won’t you please write me. Tours very sincerely, mymrwrmmm co - Mr. Henry M. Rives Mr. C. F. DeArmond
