W 23-3-3 h/ Mr. Frank Strong: In conversation today with Harry Jameson, State Engineer's assistant in this territory, he advised me regard­ing production of a "bonanza** well adjacent to our holdings. As you know, the old Lorenzi Resort, or "Twin Lakes", was purchased by a Mr. Sharp of San Diego two or three years ago. There were three small wells on the property, none of them producing much water. Recently he filed for permission to change the point of diversion on one of the small wells and applied for J second feet from this source. It was then producing about five (5) gallons per minute. He arranged with a local concern, Las Vegas Drilling Co., who have two small rotary rigs, to plug this well and move over about twenty (20) feet and drill a new one* The flow came in at 1300 gallons per minute or 1,800,000 gallons per day. The hole is drilled to 900 feet, and they have their casing down to 600, where it stuck. Theoretically, the Water Supervisor in this Basin is supposed to periodically check the well production to see no more water is taken from the well than the amount specified in the permit, but in actual practice this is a difficult thing to police. There are three other applications pending for wells, adjacent to our water-bearing land; one by R. J. Kaltenborn, .4 S.F. for quasi-municipal and domestic use on his acreage, and two by Murray Wollman, each for .4 S.F. on his acreage just West of our Well No. 10. Would like to diseuss this with you on your next trip out here next week. We did not have much success with our formal protest against promiscuous drilling in our vicinity, other than to make the community conscious of the importance of water conservation, but it may be advisable to discuss with Hugh .Shamberger on his next trip here the latter part of the month the feasibility of establishing a closed zone in a certain portion of the Valley where no additional appropria­tions would be granted.
