Luring the summer of 1936, th is line averaged about 50 leaks a week. I do not know i f the Hailroad Water Service Department maintained an actual record of this expense, but 1 re c a ll during the time when the Water Service gang was reduced to a minimum the wooden lin e became in such serious condition that a contract was made with private parties to patch the lin e for #36.00, and based on this figu re the subsequent maintenance must have been rather expensive, as the leaks would not stay fixed but had to be gone over day a fte r day. Each F a ll, when the deep grass dried out, it was necessary to secure the services of a man and team to clear o ff the dry grass and brush along the wooden main, to avoid hazard o f destruction by f i r e . ^his expense for one year was f 90.00 and the following year #85.00. This item of expense w ill, of course, be eliminated when the new mains are buried underground. The additional water supply available from the new w ell and improvements w ill enable us to:
