You and each of you will please take notice that pursuant to a call this day issued by Mayor Baker, a special meeting of the Board of Commissioners of the City of Las Vegas, Nevada, will be held in the Mayor's Office of the City Hall, 5th and Stewart, on the 1st day of February, 1957, at the hour of 3:00 P. M. to consider the following matters: 1. Convention Hall Ordinance 2. Legislative Changes 3. BOOS Las Vegas, Nevada February 1, 1957 (CALL OF SPECIAL MEETING) A special meeting of the Board of Commissioners of the City of Las Vegas, Nevada held this 1st day of February, 1957 was called to order at the hour of 3:15 P. M. by His Honor Mayor Baker with the following members present: Mayor C. D. Baker Commissioner Wendell Bunker Commissioner E. W. Fountain Commissioner Harris P. Sharp Commissioner Reed Whipple City Attorney Howard W. Cannon City Manager A. H. Kennedy City Clerk Shirley Ballinger Director of Finance Harold W. Laird An ordinance entitled: AN ORDINANCE FIXING AND IMPOSING LICENSE TAXES FOR REVENUE UPON HOTELS AND MOTELS AND UPON GAMING; AUTHORIZING THE COLLECTION OF SUCH LICENSE TAXES: PRESCRIBING OTHER DETAILS IN CONNECTION THEREWITH; AND PROVIDING PENALTIES FOR THE VIOLATION HEREOF, having been reported on favorably by Commissioners Fountain and Sharp, was read in full to the Board. Commissioner Sharp moved the above entitled Ordinance No. 734 be adopted. Motion seconded by Commissioner Fountain and carried by the following vote: Commissioners Bunker, Fountain, Sharp, Whipple and His Honor voting aye; noes, none. Commissioner Bunker moved the proposed contract with the Hoyt Bench Advertising Co. for permission to place advertising on bus stop benches be approved and the Mayor and Clerk authorized to sign same. Motion seconded by Commissioner Sharp and carried by the following vote: Commissioners Bunker, Fountain, Sharp, Whipple and His Honor voting aye; noes, none. Commissioner Bunker moved the Legislative Delegation be requested to change the limitation on the tax rate for the City of Las Vegas from one and one-half (1%) percent to one and three- quarters (1 3/4) percent. Motion seconded by Commissioner Whipple and carried by the following vote: Commissioners Bunker, Fountain, Sharp, Whipple and His Honor voting aye; noes, none. There being no further business to come before the meeting, Commissioner Sharp moved this meeting adjourn. Motion seconded by Commissioner Bunker and carried by the following vote: Commissioners Bunker, Fountain, Sharp, Whipple and His Honor voting aye; noes, none.
