Mr. Jack Porter, D irector The Nevada State Museum Carson C ity , Nevada 89710 Dear Mr. P orter: This day, I have sent to you two boxes containing a l l the Falcon H i ll excavation-f ie ld n o te s, c a ta lo g s, photographs, n egatives, maps and a r t ifa c t d escrip ticn s and illu s tr a tio n in my p ossession . Included are some Tule Springs expedition photo­graphs and negatives and some from various other s it e s in Nevada that I worked on / when I was at the Nevada State Museum. A ll th e a r tifa c ts were returned to the Museum a number o f years ago. I have been contemplating th is move fo r some tim e. I have f in a lly decided to do i t fo r two reasons: 1 , I have not worked in the Great Basin fo r 10 years and consequently I'am out of contact with the current lite r a tu r e . I t would not be fe a s ib le fo r me a t th is p oint in time to take the time necessary to catch up with i t in order to be able to complete the report. I have too many other current commitments. A l l the a r t ifa c ts are described and those chosen fo r p ublication have been photographed. Don Tuohy, who was my Dig Foreman on the Falcon H ill p roject is p e rfe c tly able to w rite the f in a l r e p o r t. In fa c t i t w i l l make a fin e companion volume to his Pyramid Lake m a te ria l. I t is quite lo g ic a l that both p rojects be w ritten by the same person and published togeh ter, 2 . Because o f the highly unacceptable way in which Jim Calhoun was treated by the Board of Trustees the la s t few months of h is D irectorship of the Museum, I would not be w illin g to have the Museum publish the Falcon H i ll report under my name. Jim Calhoun has made th at Museum what i t is today, one o f the fin e s t of i t s type in the country. The Museum is fr e e to publish the Falcon H ill m aterial as i t sees f i t * I am no longer maintaing any claim to pu blication r ig h ts . However, as a matter of p ro fessio n a l eth ics i t is required th a t any p ublication (s ) o f the Falcon H i ll m aterial contain a statement th a t the m aterial was excavated under my general d ir e c tio n , and that proper acknowledgement be given to these who helped with the excavations, both those who volunteered and those who were p aid , I hear that you are doing a fin e job as the new D irector.
