lias Vegas - Sept* 34, 1936, W 23-6 Mr* Shcms A* Smith, Manage, Ely i?ater Company, East Sly, levada. My dear Mr* Smith; In response to your request of September 22nd for copy of our metered and flat rates foe domestic and commercial water services: 2 enclose herewith a comparative statement which we compiled in July 1932, shotting the water rates at las Vegas, Sparks, Ely, Elko, ?iaaemacea. Lovelock, *»Hon and fonopah. I trust this will be of assistance to yon. All mter furnished the City of Las Vegas for fire protection, street sprinkling, sewer flushing and for use in elty buildings, is furnished without charge. In connection with the flat rate for private homes, for lawns larger than 7,000 so,ft. an extra charge is made of 24 for each addi tional 140 sq, ft. Las Vegas is a city of approximately 8,000 population at the present time, and we do not use meters for retail water sales because of the present State Law which prohibits Measuring devices in towns of over 4,000 population, fhis law is obviously unfair and should be amended, as it has been our experience here that many abuses result from it, Many of the larger stores and creameries use water for cooling purposes, running same through their cooling machine, then out into the sewer which results in a tremdn&ous drain on -our water supply, particularly during the hot summer months.
