Las Vegas Review Journal-March 22, 1950 Water District Manager to Be Hired Soon, Said Choice of a gerieral-manager-for the Las Vegas valley water district,' Is expected to be made within the next-week or 10 days, clearing the Way for early ac­tion on the various problems fac­ing the board of directors, in bringing water in from L a k e Mead. A. conference has been sched­uled for Saturday night with Kenneth Hill, senior engineer for the firm of Greeley and Hanson Chicago, consultants, who car­ried on the preliminary studies ,for the district, and at tl^at time "applications for the executive •post Will be canvassed. As soon as this choice is made, the board plans , to proceed at once with negotiations along four major lines, completion of which are regarded as vital to the ultimate success of the pro­ject. These are: 1. -Purchase of the Las Vegas Land and Water company’s wells and facilities. Officials of the company have indicated a readiness and willingness to en­ter into discussions looking to­ward ultimate taking over of their Las Vegas operation by the water district and no difficulty is anticipated in this regard. 2. -Purchase of the pipe-line I and pumping facilities now car-r rying water from Lake Mead to| Basic plant. The board expects: to negotiate with the Neyada! |Colorado river commission fori {this unit, with the understand-! ing that the plant will have first: .call on whatever water is nec­essary for its operation. f 3.-Completion of an agreement with the air force for supplying the 4,000,000 gallons per day ul­timately needed there. 4.-Contract with the resort ho­tels in the “ strip” area for their water supply now obtained from wells. Members of the board of direc­tors are confident they will be able to carry through the de­tails of the program | and ac­tually get under way ’ with con­struction some time during 1950 ' SSli--- 1
