8 Las Vegas Review-Journal Wednesday, Decmeber;12jriS)|3: c 1 i ft! 1 Allen Rules u u f Early Hearing On Water, Power Chairman Robert Allen of the public service commission said in Carson City today there was no chance whatever that public hearings oh disputed water and power matters in Las Vegas could be held before December 21 at the very earliest. Allen explained the commission was working “night and day” on its third consideration of a request by the Bell Telephone company of Nevada for service charges increases totalling $306,000 annually. The commission has been ordered by the Carson City district court to complete its review of the petition, denied twice previously, by December 2 1 . The utility appealed the commission’s double rejection of its increase requests to the courts. The commission is scheduled to hear in Las Vegas on January 22 arguments for and against a petition by the Las Vegas Land and Water company asking for permission to refuse to ' install mains to new subdivisions because of a growing water shortage in that city. Also to be heard on that date will be arguments for and against a recent commission order permitting the Southern Nevada Power company to refuse to provide electricity for space heating because of a power shortage in southern Nevada. Allen told Las Vegas groups earlier he would try to set the hearings ahead but so far has been unable to do so. 10SHOPPING m t S M F T 1
