Las Vegas Land & Water Co., Hr. H. I. Bettis, V. P. & Auditor, Pacific Electric Bldg., City Gentlemen:- Replying to your favor of the 8th inst., regarding our charge for $3.15, the writer examined this meter personally very thoroughly. There is absolutely no doubt about hot water having backed into the meter from the hotel warping the disk and gear train. These parts are made of vulcanized rubber and heat alone will warp same. It is an easy matter, we find, for water to become heated to such a temperature that it will force the cold water out of the pipes. Just as soon as this happens, all rubber in the meter will expand and warp. The local water department invariably charge their consumers with the expense of replenishing the various damaged parts as it is not up to than nor to the meter manufacturer. The consumer should put a check valve in at meter to keep the hot water from reaching same. Seattle. Wash. HALLIDIE MACHINERY CO. Spokane. Wash. HOLLEY-MASON HARDWARE CO. San Diego. Cal.
