Bear Sir: In the American Mining Congress gene i 13, dated April 1, 1922 (special Information Service), I have no ted the following: "Oil Pollution. In connection witl^proposed anti-pollution legislation , the Department of Agriculture reports that oil and o il waste from the shops ofj^ihe union Pacific R. R. deposited in a five acre pool of wrcer at Las Vegas, Nevada, destroys thousands of game birds every season. The o il mats their feathers, making i t inposgjCble for them to f ly . The Department has suggested measures to prevent further discharge of o il and the company has authorized the installation o f an o il recovery plant oosfiog &M800. The Department saya.that this cooperation is an eo^a^ e which w ill be followed by others in the country responsible fo r similar waste.” The American Petroleum Institute is making an investigation into the methods of prevention, etc., of pollution o f waters by o il, therefore, in this connection would be glad to receive a description of this plant for use in the compila tion of data on this subj act.
