OFFICE MEMO lias Vegas * JTime 19, 1947 Colonel Sullivan, in charge of the Las Vegas Gunnery School, phoned for an appointment at 2«30 P.M. today in connection with a supply of water to the field when It is reactivated. Major Crosse and Captain Reed, representing the Colonel, called at the office and stated they were considering one of three plans to provide sufficient water for. the field. * ' fi'l To ask that sufficient water be allocated for use of the field so that when the Water district is formed and acquires the water mains of the LVLfiiW Co. a lateral can he taken off from the proposed 30* line to lead to the field. (2) In the event plan (!) is not available in time, they propose to lay their own 12* C.X. line from BMJ. to the field. (3) Obtain from LYL6W Co. a connection wjfc h the City supply and lay their own line to the field. In the interim, pending developments above mentioned, I suggested consideration be given to drilling one or two additional wells on the Bains Ranch# from which the field is now obtaining a supply of water through 10* transmission main. They stated the Rains well is now producing 260 gpa artisian flow and they also have a pump well. I advised them our per capita consumption is 700 gallons in J„ly and August; that the consumption in those months of last year was fourteen million gallons per day and tha t under the circumstances we were scarcely in a position to supply any large amount of water for the field without developing additional sources. They estimate 6,000 men at the field eventually who would require approximately four million gallons §»er day, based os our per capita consumption} or two million four hundred thousand gallons per day, based on their © stimated per capita of 400 gallons. -\ They were provided with a copy of Maxey*s Water Resources Bulletin #6, reflecting discharge from underground channels and approximate rate of re-charge. They are making further study of the situation and I asked them to feel free to call upon us for any assistance we could render.
