Los Angeles* California. August 3, 1921. Hon. Levi Syphus, St. Thomas*' If ©Tad a* My Bear Sir:- I hare been trying to get those attorneys that you referred me to - Stevens & Henderson - at Las Vegas, to bring an action to quiet the title to my Mesquite Springs place. I had Mr. To land write to them on July 26 th. He states that he put the letter in the federal host office on that day himself at the Federal Building. They claim they did not get it until the 29th. He wrote them again on the 30th, sending the letter with a special delivery stamp. They admit the receiving of these letters and wrote a letter dated August 1st which seems to be an awfully slow performance. In the first place my taxes have all been paid, but if they have not that will not effect my right to the property as against everybody but the state, and I can redeem at any time. That is no reason for them to say that I do not own the property. I am handing you copies of the letters that Mr. Tolaad wrote them and also a copy of the letter which he has today received from them. These, with the knowledge you already have, will enable you to understand the situation. I am very anxious that you will go over to Las Vegas at once on receipt of this and have an action begun to protect my property, either by them or by somebody else. The thing that I want to do is to stop the running of the statute of limitations in favor of theme people, whoever they may be. If necessary I will of course redeem from taxes• Tomorrow I will mail you at Las Vegas my tax receipts. Whatever your expenses are I will pay. I hereby authorize you to take any Btep necessary to commence the action, eveh to verifying the complaint, if that is necessary. Candidly, these attorneys write very strangely, as you will see when you read their letter. There is no reason why they should not have sent to me the amount of the taxes that they claim are due, at any rate, so that I could send the money to pay them, but there are none due. Very truly yours,
