(News Item) Warm weather in Las Vegas during the past week has caused an abnormal drain on the reserve supply of water stored in the reservoir, according to officials of the later Company, who state that measurements this morning showed a little over five feet of water in the reservoir. Prompt action i s being taken to present the possibility of a serious water shortage in the city. The pump in railroad yards is being operated day and night, delivering over a million gallons of water per day to the city mains, in addition to the regular supply from the well and springs* The additional supply of water made available by the new well recently drilled by the Water Company is evidently offset by the large number of air cooling machines which have become so popular in Les Vegas in the last year or two. City officials and the police department are checking for violations of the city ordinance which prohibits waste of water. June 9, 1938
