Las Vegas Review-Journal - November 22, 1949 W l H. J. tinv To Check Water Wastage Installation of several water meters in various sections of the city as part of the survey to determine where and how water is being wasted, was authorized by the Las Vegas city commission yesterday. These meters will be installed only upon the request of hon.a owners and proprietors of business establishments and hotels as a check on the total amount of water being used for statistical purposes. The measuring devices will be removed after the tests are completed. In addition, the city board agreed to assign one man to conduct an investigation of all water using devices in the city, (coolers, refrigeration systems, etc.) to determine whether they are equipped with pumps so the water is recaptured instead of running steadily into the sewer. The survey is the outgrowth of the conference called h e r e recently by the public service-commission to delve into the water shortage problem. During that session it was suggested that a thorough investigation of all water uses in the area be made as a basis for determining whether or not more stria-; gent city ordinances will be necessary to force conservation of the available supply to avoid a more serious shortage next summer.
