Fort Mohave Aug 18th The Honorable Commissioner of Indian Affairs Washington DC Sir: Replying to your letter July 18th in regard to a request made by A.W. Hart of Needle, Cal. to open a trading post at Fort Mohave I have the honor to state but I have looked carefully into Mr. Harts record and find him a very desirable man do you have charge of such a concern in an Indian Country. However there is a stove here now operated by [not legible] B. H. Spears T les, that is giving good satisfaction. Mr. Spears wishes to remain and so as he is no good a man as Mr. Hart, and well acquainted with and well liked by the Indians I would recommend his retention.
