March 9th 1891, when I was informed that “The school will be known hereafter as the Herbert Welsh Institute in honor of a gentleman who has given so much time, service and money, and worked so efficiently in the interest of Indian civilization. No more honorable name could be conferred upon and institution. The school is [not legible] on a gravel bluff on the east bank of the Colorado river near the head of Mojave Valley Institute 35°6’ north longitude 114°31’ west; altitude 535 ft above sea level and 75 feet above the river.
