Dear Sirs: Referring to Mr. Bancroft* s letter of August 6th to Mr. Clark, and to Mr. Clark’s letter of August 8th, file 403 to me, regarding artesian wells in the Las Vegas Valley: I enclose herewith copy of letter from Mr. Bracken describing the artesian belt, giving the number of wells the amount of acreage under cultivation and, the amount which may be brought under cultivation. In addition to the information given therein, I am advised that Mr. Peter Buol shipped this year two carloads of eanteloupes from Las Vegas which were raised in that vicinity, and that last year he shipped three carloads of hay which were likewise raised there, these being the only products of the valley shipped out of there this year and last. ‘Mr. Buol advises that this year he left on the ground ten carloads of cantaloupes for the reason that the market price was not high enough to enable him to make a profit. He states he lost money cn the two cars shipped. Enel s. E. ....
