Information

Date
1930 to 1939
Description

From the Nye County, Nevada Photograph Collection (PH-00221) -- Series III. Beatty, Nevada -- Subseries III.B. Lisle Family. The sign was painted by Chloe Lisle's stepfather and was placed 30 miles down the highway toward Las Vegas, in the vicinity of Lathrop Wells, Nevada. The sign says, "30 MILES TO BEATTY THE NEVADA GATEWAY TO DEATH VALLEY [NOT LEGIBLE]. It then names off many of the businesses in Beatty such as hotels, garages, clubs, and cafes. This picture is particularly valuable because it provides a listing of many of the businesses located in Beatty at the time.
