REPORT OF THE CURATOR OF ARCHAEOLOGY FOE THE MONTH OF OCTOBER, 1963 The first week and a half of the month was spent continuing the excavations of Boom 1 at Lehman Caves National Monument started the latter part of the previous month* 1 was assisted by George Kritzman of Los Angeles (Calif*) and Peter Williams of San Francisco (Calif*)* On my return to the Nevada State Museum* I organized the field notes and photographs of the Lehman Caves dig. The specimens were all numbered and the bones shipped away for analysis: the animal bones to Alan Ziegler at U.C. Berkeley and the human bones to Bichard and Sheilagh Brooks at the University of Colorado* I finished the re-analysis of the Falcon Hill basketry in the light of the additional details pointed out to me by Larry Dawson during my coafere^ge with Mo„a±^U * C . Berkeley. The significant basketry specimen?* on ini Balls of technique and vital stratigraphic occurrence* were checked over and organized and sent off to U*C*L*A* to be radiocarbon dated* along with the forms properly filled out. Analysis of the cordage from Falcon Hill continued. | identified all of the baskets in the museum * s storage area according to tribal designation. A list has been made of all of the baskets so that eventually the tribal name can be written on all of the baskets. Photographs were taken of some of the Mash© baskets* Analysis was started on all of the prehistoric basketry in the museum's collections, most of the material consisting of items gathered by the Nevada Park Commission. In addition* cordage and matting will be included in the analysis* Finally * correspondence * as usual, occupied a large part of the curator's time. Charles Rozaire* Curator of Archaeology.
