The J. Kell Houssels House, nicknamed "The Pines" by its designer, architect Harrison S. Stocks, was built in 1933 at 1012 S. Sixth Street, near Charleston Boulevard, in Las Vegas, Nevada. It was commissioned by District Attorney Harley A. Harmon and was hailed as the most modern building in Las Vegas at the time of its construction. When the house was threatened by the commercialization of its neighborhood, it was purchased by casino magnate J. Kell Houssels and donated to the University of Nevada, Las Vegas. Special Collections Curator Anna Dean Kepper led the preservation effort. In 1983, the Houssels House was transported from Sixth Street to the campus of UNLV, where it is the oldest building on campus. It originally served as an architecture studio, and it has also housed faculty members. The Houssels House currently contains the UNLV Center for Social Justice and the Multicultural Center/Centro Multiculturál.
