In 1970 Fedora Bontempi Simpkin formed the Clark County Mother of the Year Awards Committee to recognize Las Vegas, Nevada women. The Awards Committee sought nominations from the local community and selected the Clark County Mother of the Year. They also honored several other women as mother of the year in a variety of categories including humanitarian, show business, foster, political, professional, and community service.
