Long-time Pahrump Valley residents Jim and Effie Spicer were owners of the Boiling Pot Outfit Ranch, located eight miles north of Beatty, Nevada. The ranch was involved in mining, selling industrial supplies and raising cattle. The Spicers were well informed about Nevada's political matters and were active in civic and charitable affairs.
