Biographical / Historical Note

The Las Vegas Astronomical Society (LVAS) began at the suggestion of University of Nevada, Las Vegas (UNLV) professor Dr. Ed Grayzeck in 1980. Dr. Grayzeck had organized several community-based events for the UNLV Astronomy Department and wanted to see them continue. UNLV students David Fletcher and Sharon Parker organized this amateur astronomy club and became its first President and Vice-President, respectively. As of 2015 the LVAS has continued to grow and operate.
