George Daniel Ellsworth Mortimer was born in Clifton, Ohio in 1876 and attended school in Ohio and Pennsylvania. In 1904 he married Charlotte W. Thompson of New Jersey. Mortimer worked as a mining engineer in California, Arizona, Nevada, and Canada before taking the position of president and CEO with Bolivian Mines Company, Inc. in La Paz, Bolivia in 1914. He died in La Paz in 1920.
