The Gordon Munford Papers and Music Scores is comprised of one small box of personal photographs, playbills from various New York plays, and local event programs from 1974 to 1996. The remaining six boxes contain music manuscript arrangements that were composed and/or arranged by Munford.

Musical director and arranger Gordon Munford was born June 8, 1929 in California. He was a nine year resident of Las Vegas, a member of the Musicians Union and the American Symphony Orchestra League, and past board member for the Association of Musical Arrangers. Munford directed and conducted more than 65 musicals from off Broadway’s “Little Mary Sunshine” to the Tony Award-winning Broadway hit “1776.”
While in Southern Nevada, Munford wrote arrangements for several local musical groups and was the musical director for the June production of “A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum” at the Spring Mountain Ranch State Park. His 17-minute arrangement of “Songs We Knew in World War II” prompted a standing ovation at Constitution Hall in Washington, D.C. when the Washington Symphony performed it.
Gordon Munford passed away on September 18, 1999 in Las Vegas.

Materials were donated by Gail Munford in 2004; accession number 2004-20. Materials were collected by the director of the Arnold Shaw Popular Music Research Center; subsequently the materials were transferred to the University Libraries Special Collections and Archives.
Material was processed by Joyce Moore in 2004. In 2014, as part of a legacy finding aid conversion project, Dallas Reiber revised and enhanced the collection description to bring it into compliance with current professional standards. Subsequently Dallas Reiber entered the data into ArchivesSpace.
