COPY Calient, Nevada, Sept. 13, 1922.Mr. C.V. Hatter, Special Agent, Los Angeles, California. Dear Sir- Today at about 4:30 P. M. Mr. Lavere Hanson, who works in the shops, and myself a watchman here, both went to the Post Office, to send some registered letters. As Mr. Hanson was making application for registered letter, a man by the name of O'Connors, entered the Post Office, drew a black jack, and hit Mr. Hanson on the back of the head, and knocked him to his knees. He then attacked me with the black jack, and I dodged the blow, and it struck my hat, and tore partof it away. I then started to defend myself, and O'Connors drew a revolver and backed out of the post office. I gave Mr. Harringtonmy torn hat. Very truly yours, (Sgd) H. Clothier.
