The California Hotel and Casino is the fifth hotel built by Sam A. Boyd of the Boyd Gaming Corporation. The property opened on January 01, 1975, at a cost of $10 million in Downtown Las Vegas, Nevada. Inspired by Boyd’s time on the Hawaiian island of O’ahu, the property has maintained a ‘Hawaiian’ theme since its beginning that include tour packages and cafes that offer Hawaiian cuisine. On May 12, 1986, Boyd Gaming Corporation began construction on a recreational vehicle park behind the California Hotel and Casino and added the California Club restaurant to complement it. Renovations were completed to upgrade furnishings and food and beverage options in 2016. As of 2019, the California Hotel and Casino remains in operation.
