The Alan Cummings Research Files (1974-2004) are comprised of research files compiled by Cummings, an elementary school teacher for the Clark County School District (CCSD) in Southern Nevada. The files represent Cummings's work to persuade the Teacher's Health Trust, the employee benefit plan for the school district, to consider domestic partnership benefits for CCSD educators and administrators. Alan Ward Cummings was an elementary school teacher for the Clark County School District (CCSD) in Southern Nevada where he worked to persuade the Teacher's Health Trust (the employee benefit plan for the school district) to consider domestic partnership benefits for CCSD educators and administrators. Cummings was born in San Antonio, Texas, and enjoyed a childhood in the southwest in Arizona, New Mexico, and Nevada. He worked at the Ahmanson Theater in Los Angeles, California until becoming an educator until his retirement. Cummings sought to cultivate in others a love of good books, history, music and films. Cummings did extensive research and gathered newspaper and magazine publications surrounding topics of homosexuality relating to Las Vegas, Nevada and the greater United States. This collection demonstrates how queer people were talked and written about from the 1970s to the early 2000s.
