Abstract

The Adele von Bibra Personal Papers (1867, 1937-1968) include correspondence from the early life of Adele von Bibra, particularly during World War II. The collection also includes holiday cards, academic records, correspondence pertaining to her marriage to Hendrick Zwart, and yearly planners from later in her life.

Wendy Starkweather oral history interview

Abstract

Oral history interview with Wendy Starkweather conducted by Claytee D. White on April 9, 2021 for the Boyer Early Las Vegas Oral History Project. Wendy Starkweather (born 1949) served as the public face of Lied Library 20 years ago when the building was first constructed. She discusses her time at Lied Library with specific references to her most memorable moments and her favorite aspects of the library's architecture. Wendy also talks about her retirement from UNLV in 2010 and how she has kept busy in recent years by traveling, reading, and participating in the political arena.

Walter Cartier Papers

Abstract

The Walter Cartier Papers (1962-1998) primarily contain materials collected by Walter Cartier during his time working as company manager of Bal du Moulin Rouge at the Las Vegas Hilton in Las Vegas, Nevada. Materials include posters, show programs, and costume drawings as well as photographs, and slides of the show's opening night performance. Other images in the collection include reference photographs of performers in costumes.

Michael McKensie Pratt Professional Papers

Abstract

The Michael McKensie Pratt Professional Papers (approximately 1950-2021) contain costume designs, musical selections, and synopsis for shows that Pratt worked on in Las Vegas, Nevada including 90 Degrees & Rising, Les Folies Chic, and Jubilee!. The collection also contains souvenir show programs for cabaret shows performed in Paris, France and Las Vegas, Nevada, including Lido de Paris, Casino de Paris, Bal du Moulin Rouge, and Folies Bergere.

Abstract

Oral history interviews with Sherry Tuliwa McKnight and Tony Terrell conducted by Claytee D. White on October 20, 2016 and December 01, 2016 for the African Americans in Las Vegas: a Collaborative Oral History Project. In the first interview, McKnight and her son Terrell discuss their upbringing and the significance of sports in their lives. Terrell talks about playing football at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas (UNLV), becoming the football team captain, and the role that sports play in the lives of minority youth.

White and Sarah Beth Hawkins on April 25, 2016 and May 16, 2016 for the African Americans in Las Vegas: a Collaborative Oral History Project. In the first interview, Seals discusses his upbringing in Las Vegas, Nevada and growing up in the Westside. He talks about experiencing discrimination, employment limitations, and entertainment on Jackson Street. In the second interview, Seals remembers school integration, organizations for African American women, and protests during the 1960s.

Oral history interview with Arthur Marshall conducted by Barbara Tabach on April 18, 2018 for the Southern Nevada Jewish Heritage Project. In this interview, Marshall discusses his early life in Ohio and moving to Las Vegas, Nevada in 1959. He talks about his Jewish heritage, the growth of the Jewish community in Las Vegas, and his role as a Jewish leader. Lastly, Marshall remembers the formation of the apparel store Marshall Rousseau, and working with local banks.

Oral history interview with Bill and Jim Mason conducted by Stefani Evans on March 15, 2017 for the Building Las Vegas Oral History Project and the Southern Nevada Jewish Heritage Project. In this interview, Bill and Jim discuss their upbringing in Las Vegas, Nevada. They talk about their Jewish heritage, attending Kit Carson Sixth Grade Center, and their participation at Temple Beth Sholom. Bill and Jim recall working for their father’s construction company, Taylor Construction, some of the construction projects they were involved in, and taking ownership of the company in 1999.

The Bob Coffin Political Papers (approximately 1861-2021) document the political career of independent Democrat Bob Coffin who served in the Nevada Assembly, State Senate, and Las Vegas City Council from 1983 to 2019. Collection materials primarily consist of legislative research files associated with Coffin's committee assignments. City Council records in this collection include budget files, constituent concerns, and city project files.
