Also included is European, Asian, and American gaming information and London, England's Churches' Council on Gambling reports, financial statements, correspondence, and meeting minutes. There is also audiovisual material that contains personal and commercial recordings.

The KNPR: "Monday Night Jazz" Program Documentation and Recordings focus on jazz music played at the Four Queens Hotel and Casino in Las Vegas, Nevada from 1982 to 1997. The materials contain the reel-to-reel audio tapes from the radio programs that were taped at the Four Queens Hotel, including unedited master recordings and the edited versions played on air by Nevada National Public Radio (KNPR). Materials also include contracts, newspaper clippings, correspondence, photographs, and jazz scheduling information related to the program.

The collection is comprised of professional communication, memoranda, newspaper clippings, membership cards, and manuals from 1930 to 1984 that belonged to Las Vegas, Nevada police officer, Joseph T. LaVoie. The collection contains material about LaVoie's police work, his involvement with various labor organizations, and his work with childrens groups such as the Friends of Youth. The material about LaVoie's work as a police officer dates from 1946 to 1966, when the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department was known as the City of Las Vegas Police Department.

Abstract

The Stephen Nasser Papers (1992-2018) mainly contain letters written from school children to Nasser who travels to schools, churches, and organizations around Las Vegas, Nevada to share his story of surviving the Holocaust during World War II. Materials in this collection document his captivity in various prison camps and includes photographs, awards, and newspaper clippings. Also included are speeches given by Nasser and book reviews and a teacher's guide of his book My Brother's Voice written by students of Dixie College, St. George, Utah. This collection includes a copy of Pista, a documentary film profiling Nasser's life. The collection also includes a script, flyer, and newspaper clippings about the stageplay (Not Yet Pista) adaptation of the documentary.

Abstract

The collection is comprised of a short documentary film, Forever in Our Hearts (2018), that highlights the Healing Garden, a memorial established after the 1 October shooting at the Route 91 Harvest music festival in Las Vegas, Nevada. The film is comprised of photographs taken by Tanya Olson, a graduate of the University of Nevada, Las Vegas (UNLV). Olson created the film as a way to memorialize the 1 October shooting.

The UNLV Libraries Collection on the Union Pacific Railroad in Las Vegas, Nevada (approximately 1900-1989) contains employee rosters, bills of lading, and correspondence related to the Union Pacific Railroad in Las Vegas, Nevada. Also included in the collection are Union Pacific Old Timers Club membership lists and bylaws, as well as correspondence from Clark County Clerk to Walter Bracken congratulating him on the dedication of the new depot in 1940. The San Pedro, Los Angeles & Salt Lake Railroad Company and the Salt Lake and Ogden Railway are also represented in the material.

The Ron Lawrence Collection of 1980 Reno Gay Rodeo Photographs consists of 87 35mm color slides of the 1980 National Reno Gay Rodeo which took place August 1-3, 1980, in Reno, Nevada. The images are presumably taken by Lawrence. Images show different events such as bronc riding, calf roping, and barrel racing. Also included are views of spectators sitting in the stands, dancing, and preparing for events.

The Josephine A. Johnson Diaries (approximately 1940-1978) consist of the personal diaries of Josephine Johnson, a homemaker who moved to Las Vegas, Nevada in 1952. Included in the daily handwritten entries are prices of goods and services, shops and businesses frequented by the family, anecdotes about the weather, and some receipts, notes, and ephemera kept inside the diaries. Also included are two Bibles and a small personal phonebook.

Abstract

Oral history interview with Randy Garcia conducted by Claytee D. White on March 28, 2025 for the Boyer Early Las Vegas Oral History Project. In this interview, Garcia recalls his early life growing up in downtown Las Vegas, playing various sports with his friends and father. He recalls being the president of Bishop Gorman's pep band in high school, and collecting vinyl records and watching The Beatles perform when he was only ten years old. He attended UNLV then went on to Santa Clara Law School, ultimately dropping out and deciding to instead become a stockbroker. Leaving his employer behind, he decided to open his own firm, The Investment Council Company. Over twenty years later and he still runs his successful financial planning business, with a focus on honesty to customers. Joining the UNLV Foundation's board of trustees in 2011, he has been determined to help UNLV students gain access to more scholarships. He plans to continue the hard work of securing funding for future students, and is grateful that he has done so much with the opportunities he has been given.

The Alex Shoofey Papers are comprised of records spanning 1967 to 1972 that primarily pertain to financial operations and policies for the International Hotel and Casino-Las Vegas Hilton and the Flamingo Hotel in Las Vegas, Nevada. The collection includes daily profit and loss reports, interdepartmental correspondence, staffing and operational policies and procedures, production reports, and Shoofey's personal correspondence. Collection materials are representative of business and financial records from Shoofey's tenure as president of both the International and Flamingo hotels and casinos.
