Row of railroad cottages in Clark's Las Vegas Townsite. Photograph is of a Wharton Drug Company postcard. 64 railroad cottages were built between 1909 and 1911 by the Las Vegas Land and Water Company for employees of the San Pedro, Los Angeles and Salt Lake Railroad.

(ext. right) Stamp on the front of the photo reads: "J. E. Stimson, Artist, Cheyenne, WYO. 896" Stamps on the back of the photo read: "Mallory Hope Ferrell P. O. Box 2837 Peachtree City, GA 30269." and "Publication of this photo must give credit line to the Wyoming State Archives, Museums, and Historical Department."

Abstract

The UNLV Libraries Collection on the Union Pacific Railroad in Las Vegas, Nevada (approximately 1900-1989) contains employee rosters, bills of lading, and correspondence related to the Union Pacific Railroad in Las Vegas, Nevada. Also included in the collection are Union Pacific Old Timers Club membership lists and bylaws, as well as correspondence from Clark County Clerk to Walter Bracken congratulating him on the dedication of the new depot in 1940. The San Pedro, Los Angeles & Salt Lake Railroad Company and the Salt Lake and Ogden Railway are also represented in the material.

Description
The image was taken within the San Pedro, Los Angeles and Salt Lake Railroad's rail yard. In the center of the photograph is a large crowd of people who have just arrived. To the left is passenger cars, to the right freight cars, in the background center is the first depot in Las Vegas, a railroad car. Photographer is believed to have been Ed Von Tobel, Sr. The San Pedro, Los Angeles and Salt Lake Railroad offered a special rate of sixteen dollars to those coming in for the auction of lots within Clark's Las Vegas Townsite. If an individual purchased property, the amount of the ticket would be refunded.
