Abstract

The records of Temple Beth Sholom date from 1945 to 2015 and include scrapbooks, photographs, bulletins, meeting minutes, by-laws, correspondence, and publications. The collection contains documentation of the Board of Directors, the Sisterhood, the Men's Club, the history of the congregation, events held by the temple, and construction of the temple building in Summerlin in Las Vegas, Nevada.

Description

Several organizations unite in solidarity to support the Frontier Strike in December 1990. Supporters holding signs, banners, and flags march and pose outside the Frontier. There are also photos of police officers and firemen outside the hotel. Culinary Union secretary-treasurer Jim Arnold is in multiple photos, posing with groups and individuals, shown on stage at a rally, and at a Christmas party. Also included in this folder are: photos of Frontier owners Margaret and Tom Elardi, a portable bathroom decorated with signs and a large rodent, and a clip from an article stating, "DESERT SOLIDARITY, OUR LINE IN THE SAND." Banners and signs in the photos read: "Aloha from Hawaii, local 5 here, Hawaii's people support Frontier Strike," "Frontier Hotel, on strike, Culinary Workers Union, Bartenders Union, Teamsters Union, Operating Engineers Union, Carpenters Union," "AFL-CIO Desert Solidarity," "We're here! Abstract

Oral history interview with Michael Kinnaird conducted by Erika Wagstaff on November 17, 2006 for the Public School Principalship Oral History Project. In this interview, Kinnaird reflects upon his nearly 30-year career with the Clark County School District (CCSD) as a middle and high school administrator from the 1970s to the early 2000s. He describes his upbringing and early experiences that led to his pursuit of school administration, and challenges that he faced as an administrator. He discusses challenges surrounding student diversity, and comments on the overall diversity of CCSD.

The Arlene Mathews Smith Papers are comprised of materials pertaining to the area around Panaca, Nevada, dating from 1917 to 1978, with a bulk of the items from the 1920s. The papers were collected while she lived in Panaca and consist of records and booklets from the 4-H Boys and Girls Club, two copies of the "Lincoln Lantern" dated 1927, and memorabilia.

Materials consist of photographs, newspaper clippings, and programs documenting award ceremonies, dinners, socials, community service works, and charitable events. The collection features primary and secondary sources of events such as the 1963 Little Britches Rodeo, a children's rodeo, and the 1971 youth benefit featuring Dean Martin and his feature film, Something Big. The collection also contains issues of the Las Vegas chapter newsletters Bullsheet (1975-1994) and its former incarnation The Exchangite (1963-1964).

Materials in this collection (1969-1989) document various endeavors of the Operation Life organization. They include original correspondence, meeting minutes, news clippings, medical programs, grant applications, legal and financial documents, brochures and pamphlets, and other materials that provide context on the kinds of services provided by Operation Life. These files were kept by Jack Anderson in the course of his work as attorney for Operation Life.
