Clyde K. Perkins oral history interview

Abstract

Oral history interview with Clyde Perkins conducted by William G. White on October 03, 1989 for the Ralph Roske Oral History Project on Early Las Vegas. In this interview, Perkins discusses his father’s half-interests in property containing portions of West Point and the Pickett Ranch in Moapa Valley, Nevada. He also describes the history of Moapa Valley and his experiences growing up in the area.

Nelda Cole Photograph Collection

Abstract

The Nelda Cole Photograph Collection consists of nineteen black-and-white photographic prints and three negatives, dated from approximately 1880 to 1920. Locations include Ely, McGill, Osceola, and Taylor, Nevada, the Copper Flat Mine near Ely, and the Shellenberger Ranch in White Pine County, Nevada. Also included are images of individuals and groups, mostly unidentified.

Elgin Hamblin and Judith Hamblin oral history interview

Abstract

Oral history interview with Eglin "Peggy" Hamblin conducted by Irene Rostine on October 25, 1991 for the Women's Research Institute of Nevada (WRIN) Las Vegas Women Oral History Project. Judith Hamblin, Eglin's daughter, helps prompt her mother to respond and recall answers. Hamblin opens her interview by discussing her time working for Basic Magnesium, Inc. during World War II. She describes her work, and her husband's duties at the plant as a security guard, and as a member of the construction crew that built the plant and the surrounding workers' homes.

Franklin M. Murphy Photograph Collection

Abstract

The Franklin M. Murphy Photograph Collection, dates from approximately 1929-1933 and consists of black-and-white photographic prints with 27 corresponding negatives. The majority of the images show locations in and around the current site of Hoover Dam and Lake Mead in southern Nevada and Arizona with a focus on the geology of the area; a smaller number show individuals and locations in Las Vegas, Nevada.

Rosemary Tall Dehart oral history interview

Abstract

Oral history interview with Rosemary Tall Dehart conducted by Brigid Kelly on November 14, 2002 for the Women's Research Institute of Nevada (WRIN) Las Vegas Women Oral History Project. Dehart opens her interview by discussing her upbringing in Wellingborough, England. She goes on to describe her dance career and receiving an offer to become a member of the Bluebell Girls dance troupe. Dehart talks about performing in Paris, France for shows and movie dance segments. She then discusses traveling from Paris to Las Vegas, Nevada to perform at the Stardust Hotel.

Ted Monson oral history interview

Abstract

Oral history interview with Ted Monson conducted by Rocky Fagundes on October 04, 1973 for the Ralph Roske Oral History Project on Early Las Vegas. In this interview, Monson discusses building the first house in North Las Vegas, Nevada with his family including how they transported materials needed to build the house. He also describes Hoover Dam (Boulder Dam), specifically the attention it brought to the area. Later, Monson discusses Block 16 and the development of the Las Vegas Strip.

George Ward oral history interview

Abstract

Oral history interview with George Ward conducted by Charles P. Hall on March 11, 1978 for the Ralph Roske Oral History Project on Early Las Vegas. In this interview, Ward discusses moving to Las Vegas, Nevada in 1942 and his experience in the city as an African American. Ward describes the jobs African Americans were hired for in Las Vegas during the 1940s and his teaching career. He describes segregation and discrimination in the school system and in casinos.
