Arthur Walker Gregory Photograph Collection

Abstract

The Arthur Walker Gregory Photograph Collection, approximately 1900 to 1920, consists of black-and-white photographic prints, and two corresponding negatives. Two of the images depict the first train to arrive in Las Vegas, Nevada from Salt Lake City, Utah in 1905, one with railroad employees in the foreground. The remaining images depict Arthur Walker Gregory’s class photographs at the Las Vegas Grammar School when he was in the first, third, and fifth grades.

Las Vegas-Clark County Library District Photograph Collection

Abstract

The Las Vegas-Clark County Library District Photograph Collection (approximately 1970-1979) consists of black-and-white and color photographic prints and some corresponding negatives. The images portray exterior and interior views of Southern Nevada libraries, including Las Vegas-Clark County public libraries, the Boulder City, Nevada Public Library, and the Henderson, Nevada Public Library on Water Street.

Billie Mae Polson Photograph Collection

Abstract

The Billie Mae Polson Photograph Collection, approximately 1948 to 1978, consists of fifty-one color postcards from Las Vegas, Nevada, the Hoover Dam, and surrounding areas. Also included in the collection are original black-and-white and color photographs of the Valley of Fire Nevada State Park, an Easter parade in Las Vegas, and the Las Vegas 5th Street School prior to demolition. There are also ten negatives included in this collection that correspond with select postcards and the photographs from the Valley of Fire Nevada State Park.

Bertha Gresh Photograph Collection

Abstract

The Bertha Gresh Photograph Collection dates between approximately 1902 and 1974. Materials include photographic prints and a corresponding photographic negative. Images depict Gresh as a young woman in Cedarburg, Wisconsin; with her husband Cyrus Gresh in Los Angeles, California; and at her home in Nelson, Nevada. Also included are images of the Rand Mine and the Wall Street Mine near Gresh's home in Nelson.

Austin R. Wardle Photograph Collection

Abstract

The Austin R. Wardle Photograph Collection (1907) consists of three black-and-white photographic prints of the main street and schoolhouse in Tonopah, Nevada. Also included are three photographic reproductions and three negatives of the originals. Two images show the funeral procession of Wardle's younger brother, Orley, who died of meningitis at the age of eight; the remaining image shows the Tonopah schoolhouse with children lined up in preparation for the funeral procession.

Richard T. Crawford oral history interview

Abstract

Oral history interview with Richard T. Crawford conducted by Claytee D. White on April 30, 2014 for the Boyer Early Las Vegas Oral History Project. In this interview, Crawford discusses his employment at 7-Eleven as a store auditor. He describes opening the first retail establishment in Green Valley, Nevada, Green Valley Grocery Store, and describes the history of his business. Lastly, Crawford discusses the significance of The Smith Center and Artemus Ham Concert Hall for the arts in Las Vegas, Nevada.

Oral history interview with David L. Weide conducted by Claytee D. White on May 31, 2007 for the Boyer Early Las Vegas Oral History Project. In this interview, Weide discusses his career as a geologist, teaching geology at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas, and the history of the University of Las Vegas, Nevada. Weide begins by explaining the history behind the name "Blue Diamond Village," how he came to study geology at the University of California, Los Angeles, and the employment process at UNLV.

Abstract

Oral history interview with Violet Tracht conducted by Joyce Moore on January 09, 2004 for the Boyer Early Las Vegas Oral History Project. In this interview, Tracht discusses life in Southern Nevada during the 1920s to 1940s. Tracht describes living in Las Vegas, Nevada on the Westside and what the city was like before there was any major development on Fremont Street or the Las Vegas Strip. She also describes living in Boulder City, Nevada, and her husband's grocery store business.
