The Florence and Jerry Vallen Faculty Papers (approximately 1935-2017) are comprised of personal papers and research files for Florence and Jerry Vallen, the founding dean of the College of Hotel Administration at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas (UNLV). The collection includes research files and drafts for In the Right Place, which was co-authored by Florence and Jerry Vallen. The collection also includes research files and drafts for Jerry Vallen's book, Check-In Check-Out.

Sig Rogich oral history interviews

Abstract

Oral history interviews with Sig Rogich conducted by Linda McSweeney on September 30, 2014 and November 07, 2014 and by Claytee D. White on May 24, 2022 for the Boyer Early Las Vegas Oral History Project. Rogich opens his interview by briefly discussing his Icelandic background and his family's move to Henderson, Nevada in 1954. He then discusses doing odd jobs as a child and his life as a youth in Henderson. He talks about his college education and working at the Lake Tahoe Hotel after college.

Edith Giles Barcus Family Photograph Collection

Abstract

The Edith Giles Barcus Family Photograph Collection (approximately 1878-1954) consists of black-and-white photographic prints and negatives, as well as postcards and photograph albums. The images depict locations in Nevada including Las Vegas, Goldfield, Searchlight, and Tonopah, in addition to locations in Arizona, California, Colorado, Massachusetts, Utah, and Mexico. Also included are images of family, friends, and associates of the Giles Barcus family.

Dr. Agnes Lockette oral history interview

Abstract

Oral history interview with Dr. Agnes Lockette conducted by Dennis McBride on March 25, 1996 for the Boulder City Library Oral History Project. In the interview, Lockette discusses her experiences teaching in the Clark County, Nevada School District (CCSD) and at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas (UNLV). Lockette begins by talking about studying at Albany State College in Albany, Georgia, moving around the United States due to her husband's military service, and finally settling in Boulder City, Nevada in 1953.

John C. Kepper Faculty Papers

Abstract

The John C. Kepper Faculty Papers (approximately 1966-1977) are comprised of articles and research on geology written by University of Nevada, Las Vegas (UNLV) faculty member, John C. Kepper. The collection also includes drafts and notes of the manuscripts, Paleoenvironmental Patterns in a Middle to Early Upper Cambrian Interval in the Easter Great Basin and Origin of Massive Banded Carbonates with "Bluebird Structures" in the Cambrian of the Eastern Great Basin.
