Abstract

Oral history interview with Don Laughlin conducted by A. D. Hopkins on June 13, 1999 for the Las Vegas Review-Journal First 100 Oral History Project. In this interview, Laughlin discusses his early life in Minnesota, his start in gambling, and moving to Las Vegas, Nevada in 1952. Laughlin describes how he started his business including the process of obtaining licenses and buying property. Lastly, Laughlin talks about gaming competition in Arizona, his children, and his business' expansion.

Oral history interview with James Cashman Jr. conducted by A. D. Hopkins on August 13, 1998 for the Las Vegas Review-Journal First 100 Oral History Project. In this interview, Cashman discusses his father, James Cashman Sr., moving to Las Vegas, Nevada from Searchlight, Nevada for more opportunities. Cashman goes on to talk about his childhood and his relationship with his father. Finally, Cashman describes his father working on the Hoover Dam (Boulder Dam).

Allen Fritzsche oral history interview

Abstract

Oral history interview with Allen Fritzsche conducted by Joyce Moore on February 12, 2008 for the Boyer Early Las Vegas Oral History Project. Fritzsche begins by discussing his time in the United States Air Force, his interest in electronics, and moving to Las Vegas, Nevada in 1964 after being employed by EG & G, Inc. He describes his job duties measuring radiation levels at the Nevada Test Site, as well as at other test sites and nuclear power plants around the country and the world.

Abstract

The Halina Kretkowski Papers (1962-1991) consist of documents detailing Halina Kretkowski’s life during high school, college, and law school. The majority of the materials are notes and coursework from Kretkowski’s studies at the University of Wisconsin and the Golden Gate University School of Law in San Francisco, California. Also included are political magazines and personal correspondence.

Ed May oral history interview

Oral history interview with Ed W. May conducted by Claytee D. White on July 22, 2010 for the Boyer Early Las Vegas Oral History Project. In this interview, May discusses golfing in Las Vegas, Nevada and the Valley View Club, an organization for predominately African American golfers, and its significance to the African American community. May describes how the club began and recalls anecdotes from his time as president of the club for nine years.

Paul Sogan oral history interview

Oral history interview with Paul Sogan conducted by Dennis McBride on May 16, 1995 for the Boulder City Library Oral History Project. Sogan opens the interview briefly discussing his childhood and then describes his involvement in the Civilian Conservation Corps (CCC) in Nevada during the 1940s. Sogan provides details about the daily activities of CCC members, their living quarters, and his specific projects. He also tells anecdotes about interesting or dangerous projects the CCC members were assigned to work on. Sogan then talks about Boulder City, Nevada.
