Abstract

Oral history interview with Terry Wood conducted by Gretchen Schraeder on November 14, 2006 for the Boyer Early Las Vegas Oral History Project. In the interview, Wood describes her childhood in Dearborn, Michigan and the racial discrimination there. She describes meeting her husband and moving to Dallas, Texas for his job with General Dynamics. Wood describes moving to Las Vegas, Nevada and her life working and living in the downtown area. She details the restaurants, shopping, and gaming in the area.

Jay and Jayson Dicotignano oral history interview

Abstract

Oral history interview with Jay and Jayson Dicotignano conducted by Dennis McBride on November 05, 2006 for the Las Vegas Gay, Lesbian, Bisexual and Transgender Archives Oral History Project. In this interview, the Dicotignanos talk about their marriage and the Men’s Movement of the late 1980s. Jay discusses his career as a therapist, in public health, and the process to have a gay marriage ceremony at a church. Later, the two describe gay parenthood and what gay couples did to have children. Lastly, they recall foster parent training and becoming foster parents.

Oral history interviews with Joan Swift conducted by Sue Peterson on March 18, 2004, March 25, 2004, and June 22, 2004 for the Boyer Early Las Vegas Oral History Project. In this interview, Swift discusses life in Las Vegas, Nevada during the 1940s and 1950s. Swift begins the interview by describing her upbringing in the Basic townsite and Boulder City, Nevada, attending Basic High School, and life in Southern Nevada during World War II. She then discusses working in the Clark County Recorder's office, explaining her job duties and what function the office served for the county.

Alfred C. Hurtado oral history interview

Abstract

Oral history interview with Alfred C. Hurtado conducted by Shirley Leavitt on December 02, 2003 for the History of Blue Diamond Village in Nevada Oral History Project. Hurtado opens his interview by describing his childhood in Blue Diamond, Nevada including memories of his friend George Bogdanovich. He recalls playing in mining tunnels, encountering wildlife, and swimming during the summers. He then talks about the town school, how people in Las Vegas, Nevada and Blue Diamond were connected and knew each other, and the busing route for Blue Diamond children.

Oral history interview with Gertrude Rudiak conducted by Claytee D. White on January 11, 2007 for the Boyer Early Las Vegas Oral History Project. In this interview, Rudiak discusses her personal history and being a member of the Jewish community of Las Vegas, Nevada. She describes her husband being stationed in Las Vegas while serving in the United States military, their move to Las Vegas in the 1940s, and his law career after military service.

Perry Rogers oral history interview

Abstract

Oral history interview with Perry Rogers conducted by Patrick Carlton on March 25, 2003 for the Boyer Early Las Vegas Oral History Project. In this interview, Rogers discusses being the president of Agassi Enterprises and the Andre Agassi Foundation. Rogers explains why he and Andre Agassi wanted to found an educational program to help disadvantaged youths in the Las Vegas, Nevada community in 1993. Rogers also discusses how they came to choose Wayne Tanaka to be the principal of the Andre Agassi College Preparatory Academy and the need for education reform in the United States.
