Abstract

Oral history interview with Derrick Fronckowiak conducted by Patricia van Betten October 26, 2010 for the History of Blue Diamond Village in Nevada Oral History Project. In this interview, Fronckowiak discusses living in Blue Diamond, Nevada and describes the house he grew up in at the village. He talks about the fire department in the community and other public buildings around the area. Lastly, Fronckowiak discusses the development of Blue Diamond and the preservation of the rural areas in Blue Diamond.

Abstract

The Young Audiences New York, Nevada Humanities Photograph Collection (approximately 1970-1979) contains black-and-white photographic prints, slides, and negatives of the Las Vegas, Nevada chapter of the Young Audiences New York arts organization. Images include scenes of concerts, workshops, and chapter outings at public parks. There are images of specific bands within the chapter such as the Brass Quintet, Vocal Quartet, and Woodwind Quintet. Lastly, there are images of celebratory banquets honoring members of the Las Vegas chapter.

In this interview, Margaret Crabbe discusses her upbringing in California, her education as a schoolteacher and her move to Blue Diamond, Nevada in 1949. She briefly talks about her husband, Lester, and his work as facilities manager for both the Blue Diamond Mine and Blue Diamond Village.

Oral history interview with Patsy Leavitt conducted by Elizabeth Neumann on March 17, 1976 for the Ralph Roske Oral History Project on Early Las Vegas. In this interview Leavitt discusses her maternal grandmother, who brought her mother and uncle to Las Vegas, Nevada in 1931, and explains how her grandmother opened a boardinghouse that she ran until her death in 1948. She then discusses her father's family, who arrived in Las Vegas in the late 1920s and established a sand and gravel business. She discusses her education and marriage, and reflects on Las Vegas in the 1950s.

She describes living in the village's trailer park and attending the Blue Diamond elementary school and Las Vegas High School in Las Vegas, Nevada. She recalls playing at the park and the community pool, and playing in the surrounding hills.
