Abstract

Oral history interview with Marilyn Tinnell conducted by John Grygo on June 19, 2012 for the Boyer Early Las Vegas Oral History Project. Tinnell begins by discussing her personal history, the history of Henderson, Nevada, and how the Basic Townsite evolved into the city of Henderson. She continues, discussing the African American population of the Carver Park community in Henderson, who lived there due to segregation before Henderson was integrated.

Oral history interviews with Evelyn Cappadonna conducted by David G. Schwartz on August 01 and 15, 2008 for the Remembering Jay Sarno Oral History Project. Cappadonna opens her interview by discussing her upbringing in Georgia. She recalls meeting Jay Sarno and his associates in the late 1950s at the Atlanta Cabana Hotel where she was working as a typist. Cappadonna then talks about moving to Las Vegas, Nevada in 1963 to continuing working for Sarno. She describes Sarno's personality, his personal life, and his family including details about his wife and children.

Stanley Mallin oral history interview

Oral history interview with Stanley Mallin conducted by David G. Schwartz on January 29, 2008 for the Remembering Jay Sarno Oral History Project. In this interview, Mallin discusses his personal history and meeting Jay Sarno in 1940 at the University of Missouri. He describes moving to Atlanta, Georgia with Sarno in the late 1940s to start a tile business. He then talks about their other business building apartment complexes in Atlanta and eventually building the motel Atlanta Cabana in 1958.

He recalls gambling with Sarno and tells anecdotes of their friendship. Lastly, Trujillo discusses the death of Sarno in 1984.

Oral history interviews with Rob Schlegel conducted by Dennis McBride on various dates in March and April of 1998 for the Las Vegas Gay, Lesbian, Bisexual and Transgender Archives Oral History Project. In the interviews, Schlegel recalls his early life in Port Angeles, Washington, his conservative Baptist upbringing, and his early experiences with literature. Schlegel then discusses working with newspaper publications in high school and college, understanding his sexuality during college, his first gay sexual experience, and his first trip to Las Vegas, Nevada.
